[wpvideo FBnzDjXc]Saturday was a HUGE day for me for so many reasons, but mostly because it was International Free Comic Book Day (FCBD).
Since Ben, my Cockatoo Chaos buddy, decided to go to Fiji on a holiday (I got left behind because SOMEONE has to look after the birds!) I have been waking up at the crack of dawn to feed and cuddle my too babies. Joyce (sulphur crested cockatoo) decided to pull a disappearing act (she lives in the bitey, angry birds cage which I had to crawl into to find her happily munching on gum leaves at the back of the aviary!)
I stopped in at the servo to get fuel on the way home, and remembered that we were going to be in the paper that day… I’m pretty sure the Indian guy behind the counter was reaching for his baseball bat as a screaming girl was jumping up and down in the newspaper section at 6am. I WAS ON THE FRONT PAGE!!! I flipped out completely. Todd and I were also on page 5!! AND it was an amazing write up and photo so thanks Toowoomba Chronicle!
For those of you who don’t know Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into their stores.
I went in to the comic book store bright and early at 9am to find the place packed out, with a line up for sales that lasted all day! I’m sure answering the phone Happy Free Comic Book Day, this is Batgirl, got a few raised eyebrows, but the people in the shop really loved my costume, except some small people who just ran away! I didn’t mean to scare them!! Some people came in costume including a BABY HULK! Yep, I’m pretty sure he was about 3 and he had the muscle suit and a black wig, so cute!! Thank you to Cherie Winter who came dressed as Harley Quinn!!
The best part of the day was when my sister Erin (Robin), Leonie (Supergirl) & Grace (Catwoman), drove all the way from the Sunshine Coast to promote the day with me. We had SO many people beeping their car horns, yelling out to say hello, and having their photos taken as we walked through the streets of Toowoomba handing out cards and promoting FCBD. The girls had a absolute blast, and so did all of the people we ran into, including one particular 13 year old boy who got a little bit handsy with poor Catwoman!! The WIN News crew covered the event too, so much fun!!
